Morning!!
Update: I definitely underestimated the busy yesterday. Someone also tried to hack my FB last night, so there was some remediation for that. Yay (sarcasm).
I did get a chapter and a half of the revision done. And managed to break something that requires me to make corrections later on in the manuscript, because of course I did, LOL. I also worked on the plotting for White Rabbit and Exes and Ohs.
Oh, so...
Something Snappy Here AKA Titles.

I hear a lot about writers struggling with titles, and it just emphasizes to me how very different people's writing processes are. Fun fact: The very first thing I know about almost any story I write is the title. Oh course, sometimes, but rarely, that title changes as I'm doing my initial work on a book. Take for instance Daring Their Rebel. This title was an evolution. Initially, it was Daring Red Rebel Hood. Then Daring Red Rebel. Then Daring Red. Then the current title. I think that one is settled now. It feels right and tells what we have. There's a dare. She's a rebel. There's more than one hero. Voila!

For White Rabbit and Exes and Ohs, I got the concepts first, very quickly followed by the titles. I'm still grappling with some things for the hero of White Rabbit. Is he a mafia kingpin or is he a billionaire (of the darker variety)? I know the book will be grittier than usual, but it won't be a dark romance in traditional ways.
If you have an opinion on which way to go on the hero, I'd sure love to hear what you think.
Still, hero aside, the concept for White Rabbit has been bouncing away in my what-ifs for many, many years, so the title was much later in coming to me.
But usually, for me, it's the title that triggers the story. At it's most basic core, it's the primitive concept for my story, the genesis for what it will become. And that's why the title generally comes to me first and the story is built around that.
Some examples:
Rule Breaker - He's a rule breaker, going outside the straight and narrow and not accepting limitations put on him by society.
Promposal Dare - She makes a social media promposal to a rock star on a dare.
Run Away With Me - a woman, unhappy with her life, makes the split second decision to run away with the runaway groom.
Revenge of the Curves - When her boyfriend very publicly breaks up with her the fmc takes revenge by finding her HEA with the hottest guy in school.
Step Challenge - After years of wanting a girl, a guy takes up the challenge of claiming her before graduation, but unfortunately, his father got married while the mmc was on spring break and the girl is now the guy's stepsister.
On Your Knees - this very phrase is the Call to Adventure for the fmc of this book. A demand. A challenge. A door to the future.
Belonging to Them - the fmc temporarily gives herself over to the men who rescue her.
Dragon's Blood - the Dragon's blood is the core of the series. All the fmc carry a particular gene that makes them Dragon's Mates, and all the mmc seem human until their Dragon's blood ignites and changes them.
See what I mean?
I hope you enjoyed that glimpse into my process! Happy Friday!!
Much love!
