Guest Author: Shaw Hart

Good morning!! I'm thrilled to introduce Shaw Hart to you today. I met Shaw through the Insta-Love group I'm in. I hope you'll enjoy getting to know her too!

(side note: if you haven't joined Insta yet, why not? You don't want to miss the hop happening this month!)

Welcome, Shaw!!

So, author’s lives intrigue readers and other writers. Tell me about your typical daily schedule.

I’ve got two little ones and three dogs so I spend most of my days chasing after them. Usually I walk the dogs and run errands in the morning and then I make lunch and put the kids down. I can write while they’re napping and then again when they’re down for the night.

Do you have a pre-writing routine to prepare yourself to get down to business?

I usually read back through the last couple of chapters and check my emails for any notes that I sent to myself. I’m notorious for thinking of something to add or change and sending myself emails so that I remember. I used to do it in notes but then I would forget to check and I would read through them like six months later and not know what the heck I was talking about. LOL!

That's a smart idea!

What’s your writing style? Slow and steady? Quick and prolific? All over the place?

Definitely quick and prolific. I’m usually writing when the kids are napping or down for the night so I need to make those hours count.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned since starting work in this industry?

The importance of social media to market and connect with other authors and readers. I should probably be better at it but, to be honest, I hate doing that part of the job. I never really know what to say, but I’m trying to get better! That and don’t let the bad reviews get you down.

What are you working on now?

I actually just finished my last book and I’m trying to decide what to write next. I’ve got it narrowed down to a high school romance (My Girl), an insta-love book (Her Obsession or His Obsession), a princess series, or a fantasy series. So… I guess it isn’t narrowed down at all.

What’s your favorite genre to write?

Romance and Insta-Love.

Do you have a favorite author or someone you look up to in the industry?

Too many to name! Alexa Riley, Ella Goode, Jessa Kane, Ella Fox, Peyton Cross, etc. Love them all!!

Tell me your writing story…when did you decide this was what you want to do? How long did it take you to get “the call”? When were you first published? Etc.

I’ve loved reading and writing ever since I was a kid. I went to college and got a degree in English, Language, and Literature and had planned to be an editor but my husband is in the Air Force and we tend to get stationed in tiny towns so there wasn’t a lot of jobs in that field. I started writing and remembered just how much I loved it and I’ve been doing it ever since.

How many books have you had published and for whom?

So far, 14 books. I’ve self-published all of them.

What is your goal as a writer?

To continue to write books that people want to read and enjoy.

What do you love most about writing?

The creativity of it. I love being able to create characters or worlds and tell their stories. I also love the freedom of it. With two toddlers, I’m always busy and it’s nice to have something that I can do anywhere, anytime. My husband is in the Air Force and we move a bit so it’s also great that I don’t have to try to find a new job in every new place that we move to.

What’s your latest release? Can you tell us about the book and how you got the idea?

The book I just finished is called Trouble. It’s about a thief who falls in love. I love tv shows like Burn Notice and Leverage (I know they’re both older and over but I still re-watch them all of the time). Something about that lifestyle I’ve always found interesting. You have to be smart to survive doing those kinds of jobs but it’s also got to be pretty lonely. It would be hard to meet people or to know who to trust and I wanted to write a story showing that.

What’s your writing space like?

All over the place. I have a desk set up in my office but I rarely use it. Instead, I usually write on the couch or the kitchen table. I like the background noise from the tv or to play music while I’m writing.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

Read and listen to music. I like to hang out with my husband and our kids and friends. We watch movies or go to parks. I also love to cook and bake.

I’m all about ‘giving people something to talk about’. We all experience crazy things from time to time. Can you tell us something unusual that you’ve done or had happen to you?

I am totally blanking on this one. Guess I’m pretty boring… LOL!

Tell us… What’s your favorite movie and why?

Captain America: Civil War. I feel like I should say a romance movie but I love action movies too and I could watch this one every day.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with readers?
